im back, for a post or two

alright so I had a very interesting week

I doubt anyone reads this thing anymore but just in case you do, here’s a (not so) little write-up. It's worth at least skimming over.. broken ankle, car breaking down, other fun/ funny stuff

the carwash last weekend was very very successful and we raised 2100 dollars for charity. thanks for everyone’s support.

Tuesday morning hurdles practice, I hit one of the hurdles and took a nose dive, landing funny and causing my ankle to swell up instantly
I walked on it thinking it was just a sprain until Thursday when the orthopedic finally took a look at it (and the x-rays). well I guess on top of being a bad sprain, it was also chipped in one spot and possibly fractured in another so they put me in a cast. damn thing is hard to sleep in and the crutches get old very quickly.

Friday I went to this dance concert thing at Marlborough. it was actually pretty good and really energetic. and I got to help clean up stuff from the bake sale! that was fun. I experienced the grove for the first time as well. that place is so cool. live music, a big fountain thingy, good food, fancy movie theatres where the ticket people wear funny hats, SMART parking lots that tell you how many spots there are on each floor, and other cool stuff.

Saturday is the really interesting part of my story. so I was supposed to go to Santa Monica but was really planning on going to citywalk, but plans changed once again to go to this carnival thing at a friend’s old school. well it was awesome (other than the fact that they wouldn’t allow me on any rides, silly carnies). I met a bunch of really cool people that I hope I get to hang out with again. fun group. keep reading. the suspense is killing me too.

for a good (true) story, read on
then the drama..... my car was giving me problems that night. major problems. it was sputtering and clunking and doing all kinds of weird stuff. wasn’t the gas (I just filled up), wasn’t oil, wasn’t the radiator or temperature, wasn’t the parking brake (haha first thing I checked..), it was just bad. instead of catching a movie I decided the safest thing would be to drive home and have my dad look at it. well getting on the freeway (the 101 coldwater onramp to be exact), my car sputtered and died. completely. blocking a lane of traffic. so me, being the smart kid that I am put on my emergency lights and got out of the car, walked down a freeway onramp on crutches, and stood on the corner trying to flag down help (to push the car to a safer spot or to stop traffic so I could put it in neutral and guide it down off the freeway onramp, or anything) and everyone saw me with my suspicious looking crutches and "fake" cast and when they passed me they locked their doors and rolled up their windows. greatttttt. ok so next I decide to try calling 911 and asking to be connected to the police department, because a police officer would be able to block traffic for me and save my car from being demolished... well with my luck, I got the message "all operators are busy, please try again later". great to know, especially if someone’s life was on the line (luckily it wasn’t, it was just my car being in a very dangerous spot and not working at all). anyways I give up on that idea and decide to wait and call my dad for help. well my luck got good for a second and across the street was a chp officer filling up on gas. I start waving frantically and yelling officer and he sees me and puts his hand up telling me to wait. after he writes down a bunch of stuff off the gas pump (I guess to be reimbursed for gas money or something), he turns on his lights and crosses the street to see what’s going on. I explain to him the situation and he is very understanding. he goes back to his car and says some police jargon on the radio. within minutes another cop car and a cop on a motorcycle show up, and all that’s going through my mind is shit I'm really not faking the cast thing and my car isn’t stolen, don’t arrest me. (see I made a joke earlier this week about breaking something and getting arrested.. well I really broke something and the whole karma thing was kinda haunting me). anyways they debate their options and instead of arresting me (phew), guiding me off the onramp backwards in neutral (damn.. that would have been fun), or just leaving me there waiting for triple a, they decide to push me up to the top of the ramp, pretty much onto the freeway, into an emergency lane. so I go back into my car and the cop tells me to buckle up, put my foot on the brake, and shift into neutral. I do all that and he full on rear ends me. so I’m just like uhhhh ok and I steer it up to the top, following his loudspeaker orders. we get to the top and he tells me to stay in the car and stay buckled up, and then he’s like, ill call triple a for you. and I’m like ok cool. then he leaves without ticketing me or anything. and I wait. and wait. and wait some more. after like half an hour I call triple a myself and explain the scenario. they are like well yes this incident was reported but the officer didn’t give us your member number so there may be delays in the response. I’m just like well I have a triple a card, can I give you the number. so I give them the number and there’s this big hassle over how I’m Chris, Sean and Inez’s son, and it’s under their name. so after a big long talk with a seemingly very confused aaa guy, they decide to call my dad to seek approval to send a tow truck out. I’m just like damn it come help me, I’m stuck on the side of a freeway and this is why my parents pay you. how nice of my dad, he approved them to save my ass. ok so after like another 45 minutes of waiting, a big tow truck shows up and I explain the whole situation once again. he tells me to get in his truck (which is very very difficult to do on crutches in a cast, especially since I had to climb through due to the fact that the passenger side was right up against a wall on the side of the freeway). so I’m just sitting there waiting some more and eventually he gets the car up on the platform thing and tells me he can tow me home since we have the deluxe towing package. then we head off and there is a big 10 minute period of awkward silence. then he offers me a cigarette, and I’m like no thank you I don’t smoke. haha. so we start talking, after all he is now my bumpy tow truck road trip travel buddy for the next hour. we talk about girls, sports, and our families’ histories. turns out he’s an Armenian that grew up in Russia. interesting. then it gets scary (as if it wasn’t already), for a second at least. his cell phone rings, but his cell phone is under his seat. well he starts looking under his seat for his ringing cell phone, and we full on swerve into another lane and the honking from like 3 different cars and my semi rude comments bring his attention back to the road. ok so more driving and interesting conversations, and we finally get to my house. he parks in front of the house (in reverse so his truck is beeping), and waits for my dad to pull his pt cruiser out of the driveway. so during these five minutes of loud beeping lights go on in the neighbor’s houses, and one neighbor even runs across the street.. I guess it was a little loud. o and btw my car broke down relatively early (8:30ish, and I got home around midnight.. yes a very dramatic and long night, and I didn’t even get to see a movie). ok so he gets the car in the driveway and I call it a night. I tipped him rather well (after all he did drive me like 25 miles and he saved my ass). ok so you might think that’s the end of the story. well there’s a little bit more. this morning my dad decided that he should help me empty my car so that we could take it into a shop (which are all closed on Sundays btw). well it was fun explaining to my dad why I had his missing dress shoes, 11 bottles of water, and other stuff.. including the girl scout cookies he just bought and thought were in the cupboard, and my sisters basketball, pink shoelaces, and lots of other junk. haha at least my cars clean now, but it kinda won’t turn on or go anywhere.... and that’s the end of that story.

and I don’t think I've ever written so many messed up sentences in my life (and it’s the weekend before the sat....), o well. I think I still got the point across lol. and if you read all of this I applaud you.

haha cya,
~chris

i liked livejournal so much more, but everyones dissapearing and going off to MySpace, and I am following blindly in their path. damn peer pressure. I'll probably still check this every once in a while so I know whats going on with you straggelers.. you know who you are. Ahh the fads, first it was hula hoops, then furbies, then those annoying little keychain pets (you know you had one!), then the pokeyman cards, and next the online journals.. xanga thats long dead (and always froze my computer), the infamous livejournal, and now myspace. whats new for 2005? only time will tell. or a time machine, but i dont have one.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE and see you on myspace!

http://profiles.myspace.com/users/10946981

interesting day

lol ok, interesting day

WHERE ARE MY SUNGLASSES? lol ok anyways

first of all, since footballs over, i am carpooling with casey frost again.. he got in the car this morning and when the music started he looked at me, laughed, and asked.. is this your cd? haha well i of course nodded and laughed back, and then he said soemthing along the lines of i thought you hated rap... haha the look on his face was priceless tho lol

in english class we finnally were able to get ms nolan off topic! haha score

haha o and for the diez take home test... well the biggest cheating ring ever was formed lol.. two test answer sheets were put together (almost identical with two or three differences) and were passed around online, over the phone, and at school.. so mr diez's 4 us history classes all copyed off of 2 people.. wow lol, its so sad you cant help but laughing.. diez knows its going on too lol, tis a shame i have to miss his class tommorow for court (yes again.. this time for the second ticket)

the next interesting thing to happen was after school.. i went to steve's charlbroiled burgers or whatever to buy lunch, and when i whipped out the infamous duck tape wallet this old guy that works for some construction company was like wow thats cool! where did you buy that! lol and then to my surprise, the guy in line behind me pulls out hius wallet and it was made of duck tape also.. lol he was stunned to see me with one and wanted my help to start a business, and i just laughed.. haha but o the coincidence!

on the drive home i came to a four way stop sign intersection, one thats usually always cclear.. well today four cars pulled up at the exact same time from all directions (i was one of them) and we all just stared aimlessly at each other waiting for the person on the right to go.. o wait.. its a circle; haha anyways after a few seconds two of the cars start to go and almost hit each other and i just wait till they are all gone before leaving.. it was one of those you had to be there things... lol

almost no homework tonight and a half day so no one was online when i wrote most of this.. hence the long entry

other interesting stuff happened too.. but im going to go study for latin like a good boy and then head off back to loyola for the water polo banquet

water polo banquet in a few hours.. should be fun

Period. End of story. But drinking in Math class is even worse, even if it was one of those non-alcoholic Lemon-Lime Gatorades. Despite the fact that the risk of getting drunk from a non-alcoholic Gatorade is extremely low, it is still a bad idea to drink one during school hours. Even without being under the influence, it is easy to spill a Gatorade with its large opening on top. This could cause a nasty mess, which if left over time would leave a stain on the ground and possibly even weaken the floor enough so that one day an unfortunate student would fall through the floor down onto Mr. Castellanos’s Spanish class, where additional drinks are sold. What a disaster that would be! It could even spill all over notes or homework (well assuming people did the homework) papers, causing disturbing yellow stains that would make people uneasy about touching the paper, as well as blurring important information. Additionally, Gatorade is not healthy and at such a young age while we are still growing, water is a much better choice. The additional sugar and minerals in Gatorade lead to an energized state, and the resulting hyperness is a distraction.

Speaking of distractions, Gatorade, just like cell phones and the internet, is very distracting. A bottle filled with a mysterious yellow substance is very distracting to other members of the class because of the possible things they might think it is (yes some people may not have seen the big label saying Gatorade and assumed it was something else) and I apologize for drinking such a thing in plain sight of everyone. When I was focused on drinking the Gatorade, I was not able to focus in class and that is never a good thing.
I decided that this paper must be related to Algebra 2 in some way as well, so I came up with an equation. Assume that the variables are as follows, P is Mr. Pascal, G is the lemon-lime Gatorade at fault here, C is the very special Chris Meehan (AKA Sea Bass), K is the cap of the bottle, F is the floor, E is a punishment essay, and X and Y are just there because they look cool. The equation is as follows, E = {((K-PF)sin(pi))/(PF-K) sqrt [(CsinG + P^2 abs(F/Ypi))/(sec(PK-FC)*e^(CK))]} - ln({(G^3/arctan(C-K) + P^X) * [(arctan(C-K)/G^3)-(P^K/G^3) * arctan (C-K)]} * (CKcos(pi/2)/(FX-sin^-1(X-Y^2)))). So yes, that’s the mathematically exact way that I got a punishment essay. Or maybe it just says E = 0.
I believe that placing Gatorade machines on campus is a bit of an oxy-moron in and of itself since we are not allowed to drink them in the halls. However, the vending machines are a convenience that I, as do many other students, appreciate. I remember a time when we did not have Gatorade machines on campus and therefore there were no worries of getting in trouble for only trying to remain hydrated. That was a simplistic time in Loyola’s big bad history, long after the days of midget auto racing and donkey baseball yet a while before Mr. Pascal’s period 2 Algebra class of the same number where Chris Meehan got in trouble for drinking that mysterious yellow liquid. Drinking that Gatorade without permission not only broke school rules that say “No food or drinks in the halls,” but was also disrespectful to all others in the class.

Being rebellious is a bad thing, and I feel that I was wrong when I hydrated myself in class. It brings down the current dictatorship established by the world famous math teacher and football coach in this here holy classroom of 205. Rebellion encourages others to follow suit, and therefore start a revolution. In most circumstances in history, revolution was a good thing, but in this case I do not think that it is necessary.

The moral of this story is don’t drink and drive, and while you’re at it, don’t drink Gatorade and study math.

This paper may be filled with grammar mistakes, but I want you to ask yourself a very simple question. Does grammar really matter when you’re under the influence of Gatorade and in a math class? And yes, I am sorry and will not drink Gatorade, or any foreign substance for that matter, again in class. Vote Bush. Oh and no, I do not have a death wish. Since this is after all math class, and the requirement for the paper was 250 words, I did exactly that. Errr maybe my math is off by about 531 words. Whatever.

That was sure a good Gatorade...

drinking is very bad....

for those of you that didnt hear about the prank that was played on me, read all about it here

Defore the dance friday I helped set up as usual. We played a little game of the gauntlet with the rolling trashcans and i was left with a nice battle scar, lol. Anyways JJ, Joe, and Clif borrowed my car keys while i was setting up so that they could put their stuff in my car during the dance. They then ran off saying that they were going to visit a friend. Bear in mind that Joe and JJ dont ahve license's. Ok well later on in the night i need to get something from my car and i go looking for the guys, and they are no where to be found. I then go otut o my car to see if they are hanging out by there listening to music or something. My car is no where to be found! I start to panic, and since I didnt have my phone, borrowed some freshmans cell phone and called home to get numbers from my sis. Sure enough no one answerred so i had to call to get cliftons number, making a bunch more people fall for the same prank i fell victim too. Sure enough they had just moved my car to the far corner of the parking lot in the dark where i couldnt see it, and were hanging out in the chem room.. grrrrr

haha ok so i got in trouble in pascal for drinking gatorade in class.. he took it and set it by the door, and on my way out i decided to dispose of it for him, anywas my punishment is an essay that i will write here:

Drinking is very bad.
my chemical romance with a guy i know on the olympic team bench, sorta

haha sorry about the title but it was a dare from jj lol, plus it describes 2 cool things in one that happened this morning, so read on

ok so this morning, about 1am was the prelims US olympic water polo game against croatia. of course i watched it.. nothing special right (besides us winning 7-6 against a really good team by a lucky shot in the last 2 seconds). Well my coach from freshman year stopped coaching loyola to go be an assistant coach for the us olympic team. Well guess who i saw in a coaching uniform on the us bench every few seconds. it was pretty cool lol.

now that i clarified half of my strange title, let me explain the other half. some of you may remember me talking about how much fun i had at the warped tour and how i go to meet the guys in the band "My Chemical Romance". Well today at school (the three week break from practice is officially over) they were filming a music video in the pool and on the track (made our practice pretty easy, minus the million jumping jacks and suicide laker drill runs, lol). when i asked the security guard which band it was he said "My Chemical Romance" and i was like whoa cool lol. A few minutes later i saw the lead singer, the bassist, and the drummer walk by. That was pretty sweet. GO BEAVERS (haha they turned the loyola cubs into the beavers for the day). Anyways i cant wait till the video is done and i just thought that was cool and worth sharing.

suummer camp

sorry im not doing the survey.. yet - its a bit too long

missed you all

ok so my week at camp was..
it was better than i expected. i still had to work and put up with the annoying younger kids and get eaten alive by mosquito's, but i also had a lot of fun, whether it was cooking 10 pounds of french fries, bossing younger guys around, almost getting hit by lightening, waking up at 5 in the morning to jump in the pool and freeze for "waterdogs", leaning off a cliff trying to get cell reception, going about 30 down a dirt rode on a bike and crashing.. breaking the back tire, learning to be a lifeguard (lifesaving), doing some archery, shooting some .22 rifles, sleeping in a raggedy old tent and on some nights outside, looking at the beautiful stars and seeing the peak of the meteor shower wednesday night, getting rained on, escaping lightening by hiding in a kaibo (a big porto potty) with about 10 other screaming scouts, sneaking out of camp at night to go bike riding, swimming 4 mile swims, kicking ass in the swimming leg of the triathalon and in another race during the campwide games, spending 3 hours going all around camp on a scavenger hunt, raising pirate flags up on our flagpole, helping younger scouts out, watching hilarious skits, and making a fool of myself by singing songs such as:

Verse one
Da moose Da moose,
Swimming in da water,
Looking for supper
Where did he go
He went to sleep
Verse two
Da moose Da moose,
Swimming in da water,
Eating his supper
Where did he go
He went to sleep
Verse three
Da moose Da moose,
Floating in da water
Not eating his supper
Where did he go
He decompose

OR

We’re all together again, we’re here, we’re here
And who knows when we’ll be together again
Singing all together again, we’re here, we’re here

OR

We went to the animal fair.
The birds and the bees were there.
The big baboon by the light of the moon was combing his auburn hair.
The monkey fell out of his bunk, boom, and slid down the elephant's trunk, whee!,
The elephant sneezed and fell on his knees,
And what became of the monkey, monkey, monkey monkey.....

OR

I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves, everybody's nerves, everybody's nerves
I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves And this is how it goes...

OR

many others lol-- its so fun to be immature and act like a little kid again every once in a while and that week away helped a lot.

stolen from an email:

Dear Mom,

Our scout master told us all write to our parents in case you saw the flood on TV and worried. We are OK. Only 1 of our tents and 2 sleeping bags got washed away. Luckily, none of us got drowned because we were all up on the mountain looking for Chad when it happened.

Oh yes, please call Chad's mother and tell her he is OK. He can't write because of the cast. I got to ride in one of the search & rescue jeeps. It was neat. We never would have found him in the dark if it hadn't been for the lightning. Scoutmaster Webb got mad at Chad for going on a hike alone without telling anyone. Chad said he did tell him, but it was during the fire so he probably didn't hear him. Did you know that if you put gas on a fire, the gas can will blow up? The wet wood still didn't burn, but one of our tents did. Also some of our clothes. John is going to look weird until his hair grows back.

We will be home on Saturday if Scoutmaster Webb gets the car fixed. It wasn't his fault about the wreck. The brakes worked OK when we left. Scoutmaster Webb said that a car that old you have to expect something to break down; that's probably why he can't get insurance on it. We think it's a neat car. He doesn't care if we get it dirty, and if it's hot, sometimes he lets us ride on the tailgate. It gets pretty hot with 10 people in a car.

Scoutmaster Webb is a neat guy. Don't worry, he is a good driver. In fact, he is teaching Terry how to drive. But he only lets him drive on the mountain roads where there isn't any traffic. All we ever see up there are logging trucks.

This morning all of the guys were diving off the rocks and swimming out in the lake. Scoutmaster Webb wouldn't let me because I can't swim and Chad was afraid he would sink because of his cast, so he let us take the canoe across the lake. It was great. You can still see some of the trees under the water from the flood. Scoutmaster Webb isn't crabby like some scoutmasters. He didn't even get mad about the life jackets. He has to spend a lot of time working on the car so we are trying not to cause him any trouble.

Guess what? We have all passed our first aid merit badges. When Dave dove in the lake and cut his arm, we got to see how a tourniquet works. Also Wade and I threw up. Scoutmaster Webb said it probably was just food poisoning from the leftover chicken, he said they got sick that way with the food they ate in prison. I'm so glad he got out and become our scoutmaster. He said he sure figured out how to get things done better while he was doing his time. I have to go now. We are going into town to mail our letters and buy bullets. Don't worry about anything. We are fine.

Love, Cole

P.S. How long has it been since I had a tetanus shot?

The Curse of the Quarters

ok so i found this poster with spots for all the state quarters and decided to fill it up... as of now all im missing is MAINE, so if anyone has that quarter ill buy it from you.. haha 50 cents for a quarter.. how does that sound?

sound off.. which quarter do you think is the coolest? my vote is for ternnessee

so little time left in summer, 3 books left to read, all the school books left to buy, school supplies left to buy, hell week for water polo awaiting me, and a week of summer camp...

i didnt write this but since ive got quarters on my mind ill post it anyways

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Did the Old Man of the Mountain die of natural causes, or was a curse the culprit?

The distinctive rock formation had been famous since Native Americans roamed the White Mountains. More recently, New Hampshire selected it for engraving as the state's contribution to the U.S. Mint's "50 State Quarters" program. When the rock's face crumbled to dust in early May, it was a blow for naturalists and numismatics alike.

Age was cited as the official cause of the Old Man's demise. But conspiracy theorists take note: since the Mint inaugurated the coin series, a string of unfortunate events has befallen many of its subjects.

Call it the Curse of the Quarter.

Honoring states
In 1997, the Treasury Department announced the State Quarters program, to honor various contributions of the 50 states.

The states themselves get to pick the subject of their designs, which are then minted on the backs of quarters and released according to the order by which the individual state joined the Union. Subjects of depiction include history, tourist activities, and flora and fauna.

Since Delaware's quarter came out on January 4, 1999, commemorative coins representing 22 states have been released, and three more are scheduled to roll out this year. Misfortune of some sort has afflicted 17 of the depicted designs.

To be sure, many problems have been minor, even trivial. Still, when bad luck affects three out of every four, one wonders about the nature of coincidence.

Here are some of the more unusual woes:

Maryland. The quarter depicts the statehouse in Annapolis, America's oldest legislative building still in use as a capitol. Last summer, the historic wooden cupola was struck by lightning, starting a small fire, which had to be extinguished by automated sprinklers.

New Jersey. Washington's crossing of the Delaware was a pivotal event, justly honored on the coin of the state where he landed. Was something more than meteorology involved when an annual re-enactment of the crossing was cancelled last December? The span is only about a mile wide, but severe wind, snow, and ice prevented the annual event from happening.

Kentucky. The Bluegrass State takes its equine traditions seriously, so it chose a thoroughbred and the inscription, "My Old Kentucky Home." That theme song was heard at Churchill Downs again this year -- serenading Funny Cide, the first native New Yorker to win the Kentucky Derby. For proud locals, the fact that the horse is a gelding may have proved particularly emasculating.

Rhode Island. America's Cup was lost two decades ago. Even so, Rhode Island's quarter celebrates open-sea ocean sailing, perhaps in anticipation of the Cup's return to its historic Newport home. The prize did change hands this year -- but it went to a boat from Switzerland, a landlocked country where sea-faring is literally impossible.

Alabama. Helen Keller appears on Alabama's coin, released in March 2003. Barely a month later, a much-anticipated revival of "The Miracle Worker" was forced to close before it even made it to Broadway, the New York Post reported.

North Carolina. The Wright brothers are depicted on the quarters of both North Carolina and Ohio. The aviation pioneers have had their wings clipped a bit in recent years. A growing body of evidence supports a claim -- still unsubstantiated -- that New Zealand farmer Richard Pearse may have beaten them to the air by nine months.

A few states honor important local industries. Tennessee fiddles for its music scene, while sales of recorded country music fell for the sixth consecutive year. Georgia promotes the peach, whose 2002 harvest produced much smaller-than-average fruit, the Atlanta Journal reported.

Vermont depicts maple syrup producers. Tapping yields were down as much as 33 percent this winter, according to the Burlington Free Press. Indiana's coin features the once-venerable Indy 500. The event's luster has fallen so far that this year, its TV broadcast attracted fewer viewers than another car race held the same day.

Both New York and Louisiana pay homage to historic ties between France and the United States -- an international relationship that's grown somewhat less cordial recently. The Minuteman of Massachusetts suffered the indignity of a (failed) proposal to eliminate it as the state university's mascot. And a classic Chicago-style brawl erupted over funding and patronage issues related to the Lincoln Presidential Library in Springfield. Honest Abe is on the Illinois quarter.

Even the sweet Carolina Wren, which adorns the South Carolina coin, has been affected. The bird's natural habitat is distinctly southern. Yet over the past few years, it has been spotted nesting in significant numbers in Indiana, Ohio, and Rhode Island.

A small colony of Carolina Wrens was even reported to be living in Ontario. Perhaps they're less afraid of SARS than the Curse of the Quarter.
